Thinking about volunteering with MUD?

Below is a bit more info about how we run volunteer days.

We want everyone to feel welcome and relaxed at any of our sessions.

We run Open Volunteering days we call Gardening Club which funded by MUD and currently lead by paid and un paid staff, these days are regular and for everyone.

You don't need any experience to start. You will learn as you go. We also, of course, welcome garden nerds and anyone in-between.

At Gardening CLub you can expect to be put into small to medium sized groups to complete a task with a volunteer co-ordinator who will show you what to do. We will provide gloves and and the equipment you will need to complete the task. We have boots too if you wish.

There are always hot drinks and cold water available throughout the day and you are welcome to take a break whenever you like.

There is no steps on site and a hard standing path through the main green. We have a disabled access loo and baby change with a small ramp.

There is plenty of seating under cover and space to store your bag although this is unlocked and left at your own risk.

A hot vegan/veggie lunch is provided for free at 1pm. We enjoy lunch together and relax for a while.

We will always provide a range of jobs to suit all physical and mental needs. If you fancy a hard slog and lots of chatting or a quiet day doing something mindful, there will be something for you to do.

Tasks are varied and include composting, weeding, seed sowing, tidying, painting, DIY, looking after the bees and more.

There is a great mix of people that join Gardening Club and we welcome new and returning volunteers every week.

You must register online to join regularly so we have your details in case of an emergency - you can do this here.

Other Programmes

Our new Thursday programme - Green Shoots, Stronger Roots, is made possible by other grant funders, in this case The National Lottery, and are only for blocks at a time and are usually specifically aimed at a certain demographic for example, people suffering from mental health conditions.

Our new Thursday programme is a community cohesion project and we are hoping to bring more refugees to the garden who may enjoy being in the space plus we welcome local residents to come make new friends and learn about other cultures through gardening and food, eating together, just like other Gardening Club days.

You can register with lulu by emailing her so she can get you on the register. You don't have to commit to every session but it will be the most beneficial if you can make the majority of the sessions.

CSA Market Garden Volunteers

We're on the look out for some more CSA Market Garden Volunteers. These sessions are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 9am - 5pm and concentrate specifically on veg production for MUD Kitchen and retail. We're looking for people with an interest in commercial production and who can commit a bit more to these sessions than regular Gardening Club.

If you're interested please email Jo@wearemud.org for Wednesday sessions Mike for Friday and Saturday sessions on 07538860488 for more details.

Other opportunities

You can help MUD in other ways, not just at the garden. We need help on event days, with marketing and social media, sign making, and anything in between.

We always need to help with trade jobs and in the kitchen too.

Let us know by emailing hello@wearemud.org with what you would like to help with.
