New Growers Programme
In early 2024 we won grant from Natoora to run a training programme based at Platt Fields Market Garden.
We recruited 16 participants through an application process and in the space of two weeks we had over 100 applications.
We focused on choosing people who are currently underrepresented in Agriculture and Horticulture sector.
Over the year long programme we visited a variety of sites to understand the scope of urban and peri-urban food growing, including small market gardens, organic retailers and community gardens.
We covered practical subjects such as growing techniques, crop planning and regenerative farming techniques but we also covered
business planning, fundraising, community engagement and much more.
Every session we provided a free lunch using fresh produce from the garden.
The group of 8 people that completed the course have continued to keep in touch, working on projects together and supporting each other in lots of different ways.
We are currently developing our educational programmes with funding from The Wates Foundation and Patagonia and looking to deliver courses in the coming years.
