Our Local Plan For Nature
For the past 2 years, MUD has been 1 of 18 non-profits nationally on an exciting programme called “Nature Neighbourhoods” (NN). The project is managed by The National Trust, the RSPB and WWF and is supported by The National Lottery and the Coop.
BACKGROUND
The “People’s Plan for Nature”, the predecessor to the NN project, is a national plan created for the people, by the people of the UK – a vision for the future of nature, and the actions we must all take to protect and renew it. And now, for the past 2 years the NN project has been the pilot implementation of this on a local scale.
We were chosen as 1 of 18 projects, alongside local friends Sow The City, and chose to work focusing on one of the neighbourhoods we have most closely been involved with over the years - Fallowfield, Rusholme, Moss Side & Old Moat.
What have we been up to?
Over the past 18-24 months we've been working with local people to collate ideas to create a plan for nature for Platt Fields Park and surrounding areas. The idea is to see what our community feels would be the best way to restore nature in our neighbourhood. In order to do this we have done a number of consultations, surveys, walks, conversations and we wanted to know what the hopes and dreams for local area for nature were.
what now?
We now have created a draft plan which we are asking for your support and feedback on. In summary, we want to show potential funders that our community has a plan to restore nature locally!
This is an opportunity to massively restore nature in our local area - we are focusing around 3 main areas; wildlife corridors, trees & landscape features and locally grown food.
To read the plan and to sign if you are supportive of this, please follow this link - https://forms.gle/QwfeZLiMkBazBK7WA. The form also gives you a chance to add your feedback on the plan or to suggest any activities you would like to see in the area relating to restoring nature. The more support we can get behind this, the more likely it will be funded!
