We’ve had a hot month with lots of sunshine and bursts of rain, it has worked wonders for the garden and the crops are thriving.
Gardening Club is going from strength to strength, and the atmosphere has been incredible. If you’ve eaten with us recently, you’ve tasted the fruits of their labour: chives, mint and oregano from the garden are the base of our green sauce, served over potatoes at the weekends. Lemon balm and mint infuse the iced tea in our café. Crisp young radishes have made their way into our Friday community lunches and will be available at the MUD Market this weekend.
Working in a small space with limited resources means there are gaps in what we can grow. To fill them, we source some veg from other growers in the north through Organic North. Growing is all about collaboration. In our world, fellow local growers aren’t competition - they’re allies in a world where the chain from farmer to supermarket can be crushing to the farmers at the end of the chain.
